How
many hours am I required to be available?
Currently new members are required to ride a full
night shift. If night shifts are impossible, you will be required to ride
a full day shift. Our membership committee will discuss shifts in full
detail during your interview. We will work with you and your schedule to
find a shift that best suits your availability.
I'm
only interested in riding the ambulances, do I have to ride the fire apparatus?
No. Those interested strictly in EMS do not have to ride the
fire apparatus. Those who do not attend firefighter 1 are not eligible to
apply for regular membership. You will remain an auxiliary. The
major difference between regular and auxiliary membership is that regulars are
given the opportunity to vote on squad and fire department officers. This
will be explained to you in detail when you talk with our membership committee.
Do
you have a ride a long program?
Due to insurance restrictions, we do not offer a ride a long
program.
What
does the towns medical exam consist of?
In order to start riding any township piece of apparatus, you must
pass a medical exam given by the township physician. The exam may
consist of some of the following: Chest X-Rays, Urinalysis, Lung
Capacity Exam, Eye Exam, Blood Work, and possibly others. Do not let the
exam scare you. We currently have members with Asthma who have passed this
test and have had no problems. This exam is necessary for insurance
reasons.
